State media are reporting that a Chinese plane with 133 passengers on board crashed in the southern province of Guangxi, spreading fire along the mountainside.
BEIJING – A Chinese plane carrying 133 people crashed in the southern province of Guangxi on Monday, state media reported.
The fire is burning on the side of the hill.
The broadcaster CCTV reported that the crash involved a China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737 and occurred near the city of Wuzhou in Teng County. According to the media, the accident caused a fire on the side of the hill.
It said rescuers had been dispatched and no immediate information was available on the number of dead or injured.
The twin-engine, single isle Boeing 737 is one of the most popular aircraft in the world for short- and medium-haul flights.
It was not immediately clear which variant of the 737 was involved in the crash. China Eastern operates multiple versions of the common aircraft, including the 737-800 and 737 Max.
The 737 Max version was grounded worldwide after two fatal crashes. China’s aviation regulator cleared the plane to return to service late last year, making the country the last major market to do so.
China Eastern is one of the three major carriers in China.
