The actor’s daughter and ex-Demi Moore shared the diagnosis on Wednesday.
The family of Bruce Willis has announced that the actor has contracted aphasia.
The 67-year-old actor’s ex-wife, Demi Moore, and her daughters shared a picture of him on Instagram on Wednesday with a long message about his health.
“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family, we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce is suffering from some health problem and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is affecting his cognitive ability,” their message began. “As a result, Bruce is moving away from his career with a lot of consideration, which means a lot to him.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, aphasia is “a condition that robs you of the ability to communicate” and can affect your ability to speak, write, and understand both oral and written languages.
“This is a truly challenging time for our family and we are grateful for your continued love, compassion and support,” the actor’s family message continued. “We’re moving forward with this as a strong family unit, and we wanted to bring in his fans because we know how much he means to you, just as you do to him.”
“As Bruce always says, ‘Leave it up,’ and together we plan to do it,” they continued.
