There is a new interesting study by Cone that shows that consumers in the US have started to except companies to interact with them via social media. Some of the results show that:
- Companies should use social networks to solve my problems (43%)
- Companies should develop new ways for consumers to interact with their brand (37%)
This is a very interesting study in terms of some sensational results and also shows that:
- 60% of Americans interact with companies using social media (one in four interact more than once per week).
- 56% feel both a stronger connection with and better served by companies when they interact via social media.
- One-third of younger, hard-to-reach consumers (age 18-34) believe that companies should actively market to them via social networks.
Some might question if these results are “too good to be true” from the perspective of marketers. But it definitely shows that we have passed, or will soon pass, a point where it doesn’t really matter if it’s the technology leading the consumers or the consumers leading the technology. It’s becoming a fact; social media is here to stay and it’s the most exciting thing to happen in the marketing arena since the dawn of the television age.
